The white thing in the next picture is the mantel that used to be on the chimney. All five mantels in the house have the same pattern and came with the original house, so we're keeping them, even though the fire places were sealed off long ago.
And here's another view of the middle room:
Notice the lack of floors. The floors in the middle room and the front room, which I'll get to shortly, had to be taken up so that a structural engineer could take a look out the foundation. We're replacing the floors for the dining room anyway since the hardwood that was under about ten layers of other flooring was really damaged. The original hardwood in the front room though is still in really good shape, so we're going to reuse those boards. They need a little bit of love, but they'll be so pretty when it's finished. You can see the boards piled up in the next picture. This is the front room, the soon-to-be living room. That's the front door to the house, so this is what we come home to everyday.

Here's a look at the ceiling in the living room. These boards, also original parts of the house, run the length of the room. They've sustained termite damage and are looking pretty rough. We've thought about restoring them and keeping them exposed, but that might be too expensive. Whatever we decide, it'll look better than the previous ceiling. This room had a drop ceiling when Michael bought the house.
And that's the first floor, for the most part. We've just gotten approved for the construction loan so real improvements should start in the next few weeks.
